To test for algae our pool service technicians do an overnight chlorine drop test. We test your chlorine level at night to get a baseline amount. We then cover the pool and let it sit overnight. We then test again first thing in the morning and see how much the chlorine level dropped. A drop of more than 1ppm typically indicates algae present and a shock treatment is necessary. Cloudy water is treated by our pool service professionals in a similar way to algae. Use of clarifiers and other such products typically masks an underlying condition so it is to be avoided.

We require all pools under our service contracts to be cleaned at a minimum of once per quarter. The single most important thing you can do to prolong the life of your pool equipment is keeping your pool filters and salt cells clean. This ensures water flows at its intended rate and does not put undue stress on components.

We clean all salt cells on our routes at a minimum of once per quarter. If you have a pool automation system, they typically will advise after a certain number of hours in use to clean.

We recommend changing your pool pump seals before they start leaking. Typically every 5 years is sufficient if you maintain your water chemistry correctly.

We recommend a robotic electric pool vacuum system to all our clients. This keeps the dirt, dust, debris, and garbage contained in the vacuum itself rather than running it through your plumbing, pumps and filters. A variable speed pump can save an enormous amount of electricity. Typically when ran at 50 percent power, you save around 90 percent of your electricity. Your chlorine level is determined by whether or not you are using a salt water generator or liquid chlorine. It is also dependent on your cyanuric acid level. Cyanuric acid is chlorine stabilizer and acts as a buffer. The higher the stabilizer level the higher your maintenance chlorine level must be.
